Which African country is the best for wildlife safari?

Which African country is the best for wildlife safaris? The answer is UGANDA! full guide 2026 from Lena tours uganda.

The  safari experts who have travelled all parts of Uganda now say Uganda is the best African country for wildlife safaris. Why? Because Uganda has everything Kenya and Tanzania have, plus gorillas, chimpanzees, and 1063 birds – all at half the price!

Therefore, if you want to see real Africa – lions hunting, elephants bathing, gorillas looking into your eyes, and boat cruise with 3000 hippos – Uganda is the best choice. Moreover, Uganda is safer, greener, and more authentic than other crowded places

At Lena Tours, we have taken travelers to Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. As a result, 90% of our clients say Uganda was the best safari they ever did.

Let me prove to you why Uganda beats every other African country.

1. Uganda Has All The Big Five PLUS Gorillas and Chimps – No Other Country Has This!

Firstly, Uganda has all Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. For example, you see rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on way to Murchison Falls. Then, you see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo inside Murchison.

However, Kenya and Tanzania also have Big Five. So, what makes Uganda best?

Because Uganda ALSO has Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees! No other best safari country has both.

Only 3 countries in the world have mountain gorillas – Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo. Uganda has 50% of world’s gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Therefore, you can see Big Five in Murchison in 2 days, then see gorillas in Bwindi on Day 4. In addition, you can track chimpanzees in Kibale Forest – the primate capital with 13 primate species!

So, in Kenya you see only Big Five. In Uganda you see Big Five + Gorillas + Chimps in one trip. As a result, Uganda gives you double value!

2. Uganda is 50% Cheaper Than Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa

For example, let’s compare 7 days mid-range safari in 2026

Therefore, you save $1000 to $2000 in Uganda and see MORE animals!

So, if you want best safari for your money, Uganda is best African country.

3. Uganda Has More Wildlife Diversity Than Any Country in Africa

Many people think Tanzania Serengeti has most animals. However, Uganda has more diverse wildlife than any country!

Because Uganda is where Savannah meets Rainforest, you get savannah animals AND forest animals.

What you see in Uganda that you cannot see in Kenya/Tanzania:

Tree Climbing Lions: Only Queen Elizabeth Ishasha and Lake Manyara have them. However, Queen Elizabeth has best sightings – 80% chance.

1063 Bird Species: Uganda has most birds in Africa! Kenya has 1100 but Uganda smaller so easier to see 300 species in 10 days. Moreover, shoebill stork, the most wanted bird.

330 Mammals: Including gorillas, chimps, golden monkeys, colobus monkeys, forest elephants.

Murchison Falls: The world’s most powerful waterfall – where Nile squeezes through 7 meters. No other safari country has this.

Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise: Over 5000 hippos and 3000 elephants along one channel – best boat cruise in Africa!

No Crowds: Because Uganda has 10 national parks, tourists spread. For example, queen elizabeth national park, murchison falls national park, lake mburo national park, kidepo valley national park, bwindi impenetrable national park, etc. Therefore, authentic wild feeling.

As a result, Uganda is not just safari – it is complete African adventure!

4. Uganda is Safer and More Authentic Than Other Safari Countries

Safety is important, especially for solo travelers and female travelers.

Uganda is ranked safest country in East Africa for tourists in 2025 by Global Safety Report. Moreover, people are friendliest – Ugandans voted friendliest people in Africa by Condé Nast.

Because Uganda tourism still growing, locals not tired of tourists. Therefore, they welcome you warmly.

In addition, Uganda lodges still owned by Ugandans – you support local community directly. At Lena Tours, we use local lodges and guides, so your money helps local families.

So, for authentic, safe, non-touristy safari, Uganda wins.

5. Best Time to Visit Uganda for Wildlife Safari – Best Country All Year

Uganda is best country because you can visit all year!

Best time: June to August and December to February – dry season. Because animals gather at water, easy to see.

However, even March to May low season is great because fewer tourists and lodges give 30% discount. Moreover, birds nesting season.

So, unlike Tanzania where you must follow wildebeest migration, Uganda best any month!

Our group was driven around by Derrick. He was an excellent driver, very careful, and took great care. He would ensure that we were all sitted and he closed the doors before setting off. He looks very young but a careful and confident driver. He is very respectful and would recommend him and will use him again. He is very professional 👏 👌

Me and my friends went to Murchison Falls with Dominic for 3 days and had the most amazing time! Dominic was such a wonderful guide, always telling us about all the animals and answered all the 1000 questions I asked him! He was always attentive and curious, and looked like he was having the best time with us as well :) could not recommend him enough as guide! Will definitely be back to Uganda soon and book a safari with Dominic again!!!

We did a 4 day safari, which included Queen elisabeth park, chimp hike and lake mburo park. Everything from the activities to accommodations were great and Dominic is a fantastic guide, so I will definitely choose then again when I return for gorilla trekking!

We visited Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo, saw an incredible variety of animals, and stayed in some truly amazing accommodations! Our guide Dominic showed us the famous highlights and also took us to hidden gems and breathtaking viewpoints that made us fall even more in love with Uganda. And Dominic is not only a fantastic guide, he is also an excellent photographer! :) One of my personal highlights was the walking safari in Lake Mburo. Being able to experience the wildlife on foot was something really special and completely different from a game drive. We hope to have the chance to travel with Lena Tours again in the future. There is still so much more to discover, and we would love to come back for another adventure!
