CONGRATULATIONS UGANDA Officially Declared Ebola-Free – Safe to Travel Again

To all our tourists, friends, and family worldwide who were waiting – THE WAIT IS OVER!

Official Confirmation from Ministry of Health and World Health Organization

This is not a rumor.

The Ministry statement added: “Today, Uganda is Ebola free”.

Dr. Mwinga said the 42-day period is the global standard for declaring an Ebola outbreak over.

This double confirmation – first from Uganda’s Ministry of Health on 28th July and now final confirmation from WHO on 27th August 2026 – means Uganda is now officially and internationally certified safe!

What Really Happened? The Full Timeline of Uganda’s 2026 Ebola Victory

To understand why tourists are now 100% safe, you need to understand what happened.

In total, Uganda recorded 20 confirmed cases. All cases were epidemiologically linked – meaning every single case was tracked, known, and followed.

The good news: 18 people fully recovered and were discharged, while two sadly succumbed, both from DRC. This resulted in a case fatality rate of only about 10% – one of the lowest ever because of Uganda’s world-class response.

This is why Uganda is a global hero in outbreak control. We have had 9 Ebola outbreaks since 2000 and we have defeated every single one quickly with limited community spread.

What Does Ebola-Free Mean For Tourists? You Can Travel NOW!

Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine said it clearly: countries that imposed travel restrictions on Uganda should now lift them, and Ugandans should be free to travel to any country. She said these restrictions have affected the economy and now must go.

For you as a tourist, this means:

Even though Uganda is Ebola-free, we at Lena Tours will continue to maintain WHO-standard safety measures because your safety is our priority

We did this during COVID-19, we did it during Ebola, and we will continue – so you travel with peace of mind!

Congratulations Message from Lena tours Family

To the Government of Uganda, Ministry of Health led by Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and Dr. Diana Atwine, WHO Uganda led by Dr. Kasonde Mwinga, all health workers, surveillance teams, contact tracers, lab teams at Mulago, and every Ugandan who remained alert – CONGRATULATIONS!

Our group was driven around by Derrick. He was an excellent driver, very careful, and took great care. He would ensure that we were all sitted and he closed the doors before setting off. He looks very young but a careful and confident driver. He is very respectful and would recommend him and will use him again. He is very professional 👏 👌

Me and my friends went to Murchison Falls with Dominic for 3 days and had the most amazing time! Dominic was such a wonderful guide, always telling us about all the animals and answered all the 1000 questions I asked him! He was always attentive and curious, and looked like he was having the best time with us as well :) could not recommend him enough as guide! Will definitely be back to Uganda soon and book a safari with Dominic again!!!

We did a 4 day safari, which included Queen elisabeth park, chimp hike and lake mburo park. Everything from the activities to accommodations were great and Dominic is a fantastic guide, so I will definitely choose then again when I return for gorilla trekking!

We visited Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo, saw an incredible variety of animals, and stayed in some truly amazing accommodations! Our guide Dominic showed us the famous highlights and also took us to hidden gems and breathtaking viewpoints that made us fall even more in love with Uganda. And Dominic is not only a fantastic guide, he is also an excellent photographer! :) One of my personal highlights was the walking safari in Lake Mburo. Being able to experience the wildlife on foot was something really special and completely different from a game drive. We hope to have the chance to travel with Lena Tours again in the future. There is still so much more to discover, and we would love to come back for another adventure!
