Kibale Forest National Park lies in western Uganda and protects one of the country’s most important remaining tropical rainforests. Uganda established the park in 1993 to protect its rich biodiversity, particularly its remarkable population of primates.
When travelers think about primate safaris in Uganda, Kibale Forest National Park often comes to mind. The forest supports 13 primate species, making it one of Africa’s outstanding destinations for primate viewing. Chimpanzees are the main attraction, and visitors have an excellent opportunity to observe these fascinating primates in their natural forest habitat.
Besides chimpanzees, Kibale provides opportunities to see several other primates, forest birds, butterflies, plants, and other wildlife. The surrounding landscapes, wetlands, communities, and tea plantations also add variety to this short Uganda safari.
On arrival, our company representative will warmly welcome you and introduce you to your safari guide. After a short briefing, you will begin your journey toward Kibale Forest National Park, widely known as the home of chimpanzees in Uganda.
The drive takes approximately six hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Along the way, you will enjoy beautiful views of Uganda’s countryside, including small towns, villages, farms, plantations, and rolling green landscapes.
Your guide will make appropriate stops during the journey whenever necessary.
As you travel farther into western Uganda, the landscape gradually becomes greener and more scenic. The surroundings of Kibale feature tropical forests, crater landscapes, agricultural communities, and extensive tea plantations.
You will arrive at your lodge around lunchtime, where the staff will welcome you and serve a hot lunch.
After lunch, spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge after your journey. You can enjoy the peaceful surroundings, take photographs, watch birds around the property, or simply prepare for the following morning’s chimpanzee adventure.
Later in the evening, enjoy dinner before settling in for the night.

After an early morning breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre, where you will meet the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers.
The park rangers will brief you about chimpanzee tracking procedures, forest guidelines, safety requirements, and responsible behavior while observing the chimpanzees.
After the briefing, you will enter Kibale Forest with an experienced ranger guide and begin searching for the chimpanzees.
The chimpanzee tracking experience normally takes approximately two to three hours, although the duration can vary depending on the location and movement of the chimpanzees.
Walking through Kibale Forest provides much more than a chance to see chimpanzees. Your ranger may also point out different trees, birds, butterflies, monkeys, and other wildlife along the trail.
Chimpanzees frequently communicate through loud calls, screams, pant-hoots, and other vocalizations. Their energetic feeding behavior and loud communication can sometimes help trackers locate them in the dense forest.
Once your group finds the chimpanzees, you will have an opportunity to observe their behavior while following the instructions provided by your ranger.
Watching chimpanzees in their natural environment can become one of the most memorable experiences of a Uganda safari. You may see them feeding, grooming each other, resting, moving between trees, caring for their young, or communicating with other members of the community.
After the chimpanzee experience, you will return to the park headquarters and meet your safari guide.
Following the morning adventure, your guide will transfer you back to the lodge or another arranged location for lunch.
Take some time to relax before beginning your afternoon activity.
In the afternoon, continue to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk.
The wetland lies close to Kibale Forest and offers excellent opportunities for bird watching and primate viewing. A trained local guide will lead you through the sanctuary and explain the different plants, birds, animals, and ecological features found in the area.
Bigodi has gained recognition as an excellent birding destination. One of its most famous birds is the beautiful Great Blue Turaco.
You may also encounter several other bird species during the walk.
Apart from birds, Bigodi supports several primates. Depending on wildlife movement and luck, you may see olive baboons, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and other species.
The walk also gives you an opportunity to appreciate the relationship between the wetland, surrounding communities, and Kibale Forest.
After completing the Bigodi Swamp Walk, return to your lodge for relaxation.
Later, enjoy dinner and spend another peaceful night near Kibale Forest.

Enjoy a relaxed morning breakfast at your lodge while taking in the beautiful atmosphere surrounding Kibale Forest.
Depending on your departure schedule, you may have some time to enjoy the lodge before starting the journey back to Entebbe.
After breakfast, your safari guide will begin the transfer from Kibale Forest National Park to Entebbe International Airport.
The journey takes you through western and central Uganda, allowing you another opportunity to enjoy the countryside.
Your guide may make suitable stops along the way for refreshments, lunch, photography, or personal needs, depending on your flight schedule.
On arrival in Entebbe, your guide will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your international flight.
