Introduction to the Africa Big Five Safari Experience

Africa offers some of the most exciting wildlife adventures in the world. Its vast savannahs, beautiful national parks, and remarkable animals attract travelers throughout the year. Among these adventures, the Africa Big Five safari experience remains one of the most popular. Visitors travel from different countries to see lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinoceroses in their natural surroundings.

An African safari offers more than beautiful wildlife photographs. It creates opportunities to explore nature, understand animal behavior, and discover different ecosystems. Travelers may watch elephants walking across open grasslands or lions resting beneath acacia trees. Meanwhile, buffaloes gather near watering points, and leopards hide among branches. Every wildlife encounter brings a different experience.

Uganda stands among Africa’s most interesting safari destinations. The country combines savannah wildlife, tropical forests, beautiful lakes, and remarkable landscapes. Visitors can enjoy Big Five game viewing alongside chimpanzee tracking and mountain gorilla trekking. This combination makes Uganda especially attractive to travelers who want several wildlife experiences during one holiday.

At Lena Tours, we help travelers discover Africa through carefully planned wildlife safaris. Our itineraries connect famous national parks, comfortable accommodation, knowledgeable guides, and memorable activities. Whether you prefer a short adventure or a longer wildlife holiday, Uganda offers excellent opportunities.

This guide explains the five famous animals, their habitats, and the best safari destinations. It also covers travel seasons, photography, accommodation, conservation, and safari planning. Additionally, we provide a detailed ten-day Uganda Big Five safari itinerary.

What Are the African Big Five Animals?

The African Big Five consists of the lion, leopard, African elephant, African buffalo, and rhinoceros. These animals became famous during the early history of African big-game hunting. Hunters originally used the term to describe five especially dangerous animals to pursue on foot.

Today, the expression has a different meaning. Wildlife tourism focuses on observing animals rather than hunting them. Travelers now associate the Big Five with conservation, photography, and memorable safari adventures.

Interestingly, the Big Five are not necessarily Africa’s five largest mammals. Giraffes and hippopotamuses can outweigh some animals on the list. Instead, the historical classification reflects the difficulty and danger of hunting these species.

Modern wildlife safaris allow tourists to appreciate their importance within African ecosystems. Predators help regulate prey populations, while herbivores influence vegetation and landscapes. Together, these animals form part of complex natural environments.

The African Big Five at a Glance

Big Five Animal Scientific Name Main Uganda Safari Locations
Lion Panthera leo Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo Valley
Leopard Panthera pardus Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo
Elephant Loxodonta africana Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo Valley
Buffalo Syncerus caffer Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, Kidepo Valley
White Rhinoceros Ceratotherium simum simum Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary; protected reintroduction areas

Uganda offers opportunities to encounter all five animals. However, their distribution differs between destinations. Four are well established in major savannah parks. Rhino viewing generally requires a dedicated visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Importantly, Uganda also began returning rhinos to additional protected areas in 2026. The Uganda Wildlife Authority announced translocations to Ajai Wildlife Reserve and Kidepo Valley National Park. These projects represent important progress in national rhino conservation.

The African Lion: King of the Savannah

male lion king of the jungle murchison falls national parc uganda

The African lion remains one of the most admired animals on safari. Its powerful body, distinctive appearance, and social behavior attract wildlife enthusiasts worldwide. Many visitors consider seeing a lion among the greatest moments of an African holiday.

Lions live in social groups known as prides. These groups usually include related females, their young, and one or more adult males. Female lions often take part in hunting, while males also defend territories and protect their access to the pride.

During a safari, travelers may watch lions resting beneath trees or moving through tall grass. Early mornings and cooler evenings offer rewarding viewing opportunities. However, these animals can remain active at different times, depending on weather and prey.

Where to See Lions in Uganda

Queen Elizabeth National Park offers excellent lion-viewing opportunities. Its Kasenyi plains attract visitors looking for predators across open savannah landscapes. The area supports different herbivores, which provide food for lions.

The Ishasha sector also attracts attention because some lions climb trees. Visitors sometimes find these animals resting on large branches during warmer hours. Although tree climbing occurs elsewhere, Ishasha remains particularly famous for this behavior.

Murchison Falls National Park provides another important lion habitat. Its northern savannah areas support lions alongside Uganda kobs, buffaloes, and other wildlife. Game drives may reveal prides resting in grassland or moving between feeding areas.

Kidepo Valley National Park offers a different setting. Its remote valleys, rocky hills, and open plains create spectacular scenery. Here, lions live within an expansive landscape that feels particularly wild.

Why Lion Sightings Are Special

Seeing a lion in its natural habitat differs greatly from watching one in captivity. The animal determines its movements, resting places, and hunting activities. Consequently, each sighting develops naturally.

Sometimes visitors discover a pride sleeping peacefully. On another occasion, they may witness playful cubs or lions communicating through deep vocalizations. Such moments reveal the social lives of these impressive predators.

Wildlife guides help interpret animal behavior. They also maintain appropriate distances and follow park regulations. As a result, guests can enjoy meaningful observations without disturbing the lions.

The African Leopard: The Secretive Big Five Predator

African leopard resting in a tree during a Uganda Big Five safari

The African leopard ranks among the most challenging Big Five animals to observe. This beautiful predator has a muscular body, spotted coat, and remarkable climbing ability. Its secretive lifestyle adds excitement to any safari.

Leopards usually hunt alone. Unlike lions, they do not depend on permanent social groups. Their flexible hunting behavior allows them to survive in forests, woodlands, rocky landscapes, and open grasslands.

A leopard’s spotted coat provides excellent camouflage. The markings help it blend into vegetation and shadows. Therefore, even experienced safari travelers can overlook an animal resting nearby.

Best Places to Find Leopards in Uganda

Murchison Falls National Park offers opportunities to see leopards during game drives. Visitors may discover them moving through grasslands or resting in trees. Early morning drives can be particularly rewarding.

Queen Elizabeth National Park also supports leopards. Its varied landscapes provide shelter and hunting opportunities. The Kasenyi area and other suitable habitats can produce memorable sightings.

Lake Mburo National Park provides another possible leopard-viewing destination. Although sightings remain unpredictable, the park contains habitat suitable for these predators.

Guides often search for indirect signs of leopard activity. Alarm calls from birds or antelopes may reveal the presence of a hidden predator. Fresh tracks and observations of nearby wildlife can also provide clues.

Understanding Leopard Behavior

Leopards possess impressive climbing skills. They sometimes carry prey into trees to reduce competition with other predators. Their strength allows them to lift surprisingly heavy animals.

During hot periods, a leopard may rest on a branch or inside thick vegetation. Cooler conditions can encourage movement. However, individual behavior varies considerably.

Visitors should remain patient when searching for leopards. Sightings cannot be guaranteed, regardless of the safari destination. Nevertheless, the possibility of discovering this elusive cat makes game drives exciting.

For wildlife photographers, a leopard encounter can become a highlight of the entire journey. Its patterned coat, focused eyes, and graceful movements create exceptional photographic opportunities.

The African Elephant: The Gentle Giant of the Wilderness

Elephants by River

African elephants rank among the largest land animals on Earth. Their remarkable size, intelligence, and social relationships make them fascinating safari subjects.

Elephants live in family groups that often follow experienced females known as matriarchs. These leaders help guide herd movements and identify resources. Family members communicate through physical contact, vocal sounds, and subtle behavior.

Watching an elephant herd creates unforgettable memories. Young calves may play beside their mothers, while older animals move carefully through vegetation. Sometimes elephants gather around rivers to drink, bathe, and cool themselves.

Best Destinations for Elephant Viewing

Murchison Falls National Park provides wonderful elephant-viewing opportunities. Herds move through the savannah and wooded areas surrounding the Nile. Visitors may observe elephants during game drives or boat safaris.

Queen Elizabeth National Park offers another rewarding destination. Boat cruises along the Kazinga Channel sometimes reveal elephants drinking or feeding near the shoreline.

Kidepo Valley National Park also supports elephants. Its remote landscapes create beautiful photographic settings, especially when herds move across open plains beneath distant mountains.

Why Elephants Matter to African Ecosystems

Elephants help shape their surroundings. They open pathways through vegetation and influence the structure of woodland areas. Their feeding activities may create more open habitats for other wildlife.

Additionally, elephants disperse seeds through their movements and digestion. This process can contribute to plant regeneration across large landscapes.

However, elephant conservation faces challenges. Habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and illegal hunting have affected populations in different regions.

Responsible tourism supports conservation through park revenue and local economic opportunities. Visitors also gain a deeper appreciation of the need to protect these remarkable animals.

Photographing Elephants Safely

Elephants deserve substantial space. Although they may appear calm, these powerful animals can become defensive when threatened.

Safari guides understand appropriate viewing distances. Guests should avoid loud noises and sudden movements. Never attempt to approach elephants on foot without authorization from qualified wildlife professionals.

Photographers should focus on natural behavior rather than forcing close encounters. Pictures of elephants walking through grasslands or interacting with calves often capture the strongest stories.

The African Buffalo: The Powerful Herd Animal

Herd of African Buffalo ( Syncerus caffer), Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda.

The African buffalo completes an important part of the Big Five collection. Its muscular body, curved horns, and strong herd instincts make it an impressive safari animal.

Buffaloes frequently live in large groups. Some herds contain many individuals, including females, calves, and adult males. Their movements depend on pasture availability, water, and seasonal conditions.

Despite their familiar appearance, African buffaloes are wild and potentially dangerous. They can react strongly when threatened or cornered. Consequently, professional guides treat them with considerable respect.

Where to See Buffaloes in Uganda

Queen Elizabeth National Park supports large buffalo populations. Visitors regularly encounter herds on game drives and around the Kazinga Channel.

Murchison Falls National Park also provides excellent buffalo-viewing opportunities. Herds graze across open plains and gather near water.

Kidepo Valley National Park is particularly impressive for its large buffalo gatherings. The sight of numerous animals moving across the valley can become a memorable safari highlight.

Buffaloes and Their Social Behavior

Buffalo herds offer several advantages to their members. Group living can improve protection against predators and support coordinated movement.

Adult buffaloes may respond aggressively when lions approach. In some situations, herd members gather around vulnerable individuals. These encounters reveal the complex relationships between predators and prey.

Older males sometimes move away from larger mixed herds. They may form smaller bachelor groups or spend time alone. Such animals require careful observation because their behavior can be unpredictable.

Buffaloes also play an important ecological role. Their grazing influences vegetation, while their movements contribute to nutrient cycling.

Visitors often overlook buffaloes while searching for lions or leopards. However, taking time to observe a herd reveals fascinating interactions and strong social connections.

The Rhinoceros: Africa’s Remarkable Conservation Success Story

Southern White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum) in Uganda

Rhinoceroses are among Africa’s most extraordinary large mammals. Their thick skin, powerful bodies, and distinctive horns make them instantly recognizable.

Africa has two surviving rhinoceros species: the black rhinoceros and the white rhinoceros. Both face conservation challenges, although their populations and circumstances differ.

White rhinos generally have broad mouths suited to grazing. Black rhinos possess more pointed upper lips, which help them browse leaves and branches.

Uganda’s rhino conservation history contains both serious losses and encouraging progress. The country lost its remaining native rhino populations during the twentieth century. Conservation organizations later began rebuilding rhino populations through protected breeding and reintroduction programs.

Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary remains the established destination for guided rhino tracking in Uganda. It lies along the main northern safari route toward Murchison Falls National Park.

Visitors can join ranger-led walking experiences to observe southern white rhinos. The activity offers a different wildlife perspective from a traditional vehicle-based safari.

Qualified rangers explain rhino behavior, conservation efforts, and safety requirements. They choose appropriate routes and viewing positions according to the animals’ locations.

Guests must follow every ranger instruction. Rhinos are powerful wild animals, even when they appear relaxed. Maintaining safe distances helps protect both visitors and wildlife.

The Return of Rhinos to Uganda’s Protected Areas

Uganda’s rhino recovery has entered an important new phase. In January 2026, the Uganda Wildlife Authority announced the transfer of four southern white rhinos to Ajai Wildlife Reserve.

The authority also began relocating rhinos to Kidepo Valley National Park in March 2026. These developments form part of efforts to restore rhinos to protected landscapes.

Nevertheless, new reintroduction areas do not automatically offer ordinary tourist rhino-tracking activities. Travelers should confirm permitted access before planning a visit.

For a standard Big Five safari, Lena Tours can arrange a visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, subject to current operating arrangements.

Why Rhino Conservation Is Important

Rhinos contribute to the ecological health of African landscapes. Their grazing and browsing activities influence vegetation and create opportunities for other species.

Unfortunately, poaching and habitat pressure have harmed rhino populations across Africa. Conservation programs require long-term protection, veterinary care, monitoring, and community cooperation.

Responsible tourism helps support these efforts. Visitors contribute through conservation fees and learn why protecting wildlife matters.

Seeing a rhinoceros therefore represents more than completing the Big Five checklist. It provides an opportunity to appreciate the importance of successful conservation.

Why Uganda Is an Excellent Big Five Safari Destination

Uganda offers a remarkable variety of landscapes within one country. Travelers can explore savannahs, tropical forests, wetlands, lakes, and mountains during a single safari.

This diversity makes Uganda particularly appealing to wildlife enthusiasts. Big Five viewing can form the foundation of an itinerary, while additional activities introduce other extraordinary animals.

Visitors may begin their holiday with rhino tracking at Ziwa. Next, they can explore Murchison Falls National Park for elephants, buffaloes, lions, and leopards.

The journey may continue toward Kibale National Park, where chimpanzees live in tropical forest. Queen Elizabeth National Park then offers additional game drives and boat safaris.

Finally, travelers can visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to track endangered mountain gorillas. Few safari experiences offer such an interesting combination of large mammals and primates.

Uganda’s Wildlife Beyond the Big Five

Although the Big Five receive significant attention, Uganda contains many other fascinating animals.

Giraffes are among the most recognizable mammals in Murchison Falls National Park. Their long necks and graceful movements create beautiful safari photographs.

Hippos inhabit several waterways, including the Kazinga Channel and sections of the Nile. Crocodiles also occupy suitable river environments.

Antelopes add variety to game drives. Uganda kobs, waterbucks, bushbucks, and other species inhabit different ecosystems.

Birdwatchers can search for African fish eagles, kingfishers, hornbills, and numerous other species. The shoebill remains one of Uganda’s most distinctive birdwatching attractions.

Furthermore, chimpanzees and mountain gorillas provide exceptional forest experiences. These primates make Uganda especially appealing to nature lovers.

Best Time to Experience the Big Five in Africa

Africa offers wildlife viewing throughout the year. However, weather conditions influence vegetation, road access, animal movement, and photography.

In Uganda, the main relatively dry periods generally occur from December to February and June to August. These months often provide favorable conditions for traditional game drives.

During drier periods, grass can become shorter in some areas. Animals may also gather near reliable water sources. As a result, guides sometimes find wildlife easier to observe.

Nevertheless, the rainy seasons have their own advantages. Landscapes become greener, vegetation appears fresh, and birdlife can be particularly active.

Big Five Safari Seasons in Uganda

Period General Conditions Safari Experience
December–February Relatively dry in many safari areas Good game drives and wildlife photography
March–May Often wetter Green landscapes and fewer visitors in some areas
June–August Relatively dry Popular period for wildlife safaris
September–November Variable, often wetter Lush vegetation and rewarding birdwatching

Seasonal patterns vary across Uganda. Kidepo, for example, has different rainfall characteristics from southwestern destinations.

Furthermore, wildlife sightings depend on many factors beyond weather. Animal behavior, habitat, available water, and chance all influence safari experiences.

Lena Tours can help travelers choose suitable dates according to their preferred activities and destinations.

How Much Does an African Big Five Safari Cost?

The cost of an African Big Five safari depends on several important factors. These include travel duration, accommodation category, group size, transportation, and activities.

A short Uganda safari focusing on Ziwa and Murchison Falls will generally cost less than an extended journey that includes chimpanzees and gorillas.

Luxury accommodation increases the overall price. Private transportation, domestic flights, and specialist activities may also influence the budget.

Travelers should request a detailed quotation rather than relying on a single advertised amount. A personalized itinerary provides a clearer understanding of the services included.

Main Safari Cost Components

Expense What It Covers
Safari vehicle Private transport, fuel, and guide services
Accommodation Hotels, lodges, and selected meals
Park entry Applicable conservation entrance fees
Game drives Guided wildlife viewing
Rhino tracking Sanctuary activity fees
Boat safaris Scheduled river or channel cruises
Primate permits Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking
Transfers Airport and destination transportation

Gorilla trekking permits represent a significant additional expense. Travelers should confirm current permit rates and availability before booking.

International flights, visas, insurance, tips, and personal purchases may fall outside a standard safari quotation.

Lena Tours can prepare budget, mid-range, and luxury safari proposals according to the traveler’s preferred level of comfort.

What to Pack for the Africa Big Five Safari Experience

Packing suitable clothing and equipment makes wildlife travel more comfortable. Uganda’s weather varies by region, altitude, and season.

Lightweight clothing works well during warm daytime conditions. Neutral colors such as khaki, green, and brown are practical for game drives.

Long-sleeved shirts and trousers help protect against insects and strong sunlight. A warm jacket is also useful during early morning drives.

Comfortable walking shoes are essential for rhino tracking and other guided walks. Mountain gorilla trekking may require stronger footwear with reliable grip.

Binoculars help visitors observe wildlife from safe distances. A camera with a suitable zoom lens can also capture animals without disturbing them.

Essential Safari Packing Checklist

  • Comfortable neutral-colored clothing and a warm layer

  • Walking shoes and suitable trekking boots

  • Waterproof jacket and sun hat

  • Sunscreen and insect repellent

  • Binoculars and camera equipment

  • Reusable water bottle and personal medication

  • Passport, travel documents, and appropriate insurance

Travelers planning gorilla trekking should also carry gloves, rain protection, and a small daypack. Packing light makes transfers easier and creates more space inside the safari vehicle.

Wildlife Photography During an African Big Five Safari

Wildlife photography allows travelers to preserve memories of remarkable animal encounters. African landscapes provide beautiful natural backgrounds, especially during early morning and late afternoon.

Soft sunlight can reveal the textures of an elephant’s skin or the details of a leopard’s coat. Meanwhile, distant hills and golden grasslands create attractive compositions.

Patience plays an important role in successful wildlife photography. Animals rarely behave according to a photographer’s schedule. Allowing natural interactions to unfold often produces stronger images.

Best Photography Techniques

Photographers should use suitable zoom lenses to capture wildlife from safe distances. This approach reduces disturbance and allows animals to behave naturally.

Fast shutter speeds help capture moving subjects, particularly birds and active predators. Slower moments may allow more careful compositions.

Focus on the animal’s eyes when taking portraits. A sharp eye can make a photograph feel engaging and expressive.

Also consider the surroundings. Including trees, grasslands, rivers, or mountains helps communicate the animal’s natural environment.

Avoid flash photography when it may disturb wildlife or when park rules prohibit it. Always follow instructions from your safari guide.

Safety During the Africa Big Five Safari Experience

Safety remains an essential part of every successful wildlife safari. Although many animals appear peaceful, they are wild and can behave unpredictably.

Travelers should listen carefully to guides and follow park regulations. Professional guides understand wildlife behavior and know how to manage viewing situations.

Guests must never leave safari vehicles in unauthorized areas. Approaching predators, elephants, buffaloes, or rhinos on foot can create dangerous situations.

Feeding wild animals is strictly inappropriate. Human food can harm wildlife and encourage unsafe interactions.

Visitors should also avoid loud noises, sudden movements, and attempts to attract animals for photographs.

During guided walking activities, remain with the assigned ranger. These professionals determine appropriate routes and viewing distances.

At Lena Tours, safari planning emphasizes responsible wildlife encounters and visitor safety.

Responsible Tourism and Big Five Conservation

Wildlife tourism can support conservation when operators, travelers, and authorities follow responsible practices.

National parks protect important habitats and help maintain wildlife populations. Tourism revenue contributes to conservation activities and protected-area management.

Local communities also benefit from tourism-related employment. Safari lodges, guiding services, transportation, and hospitality create economic opportunities.

However, sustainable tourism requires careful management. Excessive vehicle pressure, inappropriate wildlife interactions, and environmental damage can harm sensitive ecosystems.

Travelers can contribute by respecting viewing distances, reducing waste, and supporting responsible tourism providers.

Choosing reputable safari operators also helps promote better practices. Experienced guides can explain conservation challenges and encourage respectful animal observation.

Protecting Wildlife for Future Generations

The Big Five face different conservation challenges. Habitat fragmentation and human-wildlife conflict affect elephants and large predators. Poaching remains a serious concern for rhinoceroses.

Conservation requires cooperation among governments, communities, researchers, and tourism organizations.

Visitors play a valuable role by supporting protected areas and learning about wildlife. Their experiences can inspire continued interest in conservation.

A responsible safari therefore offers more than personal enjoyment. It also contributes to the long-term protection of Africa’s natural heritage.

Combining the Big Five with Gorilla Trekking

Uganda offers a particularly appealing opportunity to combine traditional savannah safaris with mountain gorilla trekking.

Visitors can search for lions, elephants, buffaloes, and leopards in Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth National Park. A visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary adds the established rhino-tracking experience.

The journey can then continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Here, visitors enter tropical rainforest to find habituated mountain gorilla families.

These experiences differ significantly. Game drives generally involve observing wildlife from a safari vehicle. Gorilla trekking requires walking through forest terrain with qualified guides.

Combining both activities creates a varied wildlife holiday. Travelers experience open savannahs, river systems, rainforest, and mountainous landscapes.

For visitors with limited holiday time, a carefully planned itinerary can link these destinations efficiently.

Lena Tours can customize the route according to available days, permit availability, budget, and preferred accommodation.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Africa Big Five Safari Experience

What are the five animals in the African Big Five?

The African Big Five consists of the lion, leopard, African elephant, African buffalo, and rhinoceros. These animals originally gained their collective name through historical hunting traditions. Today, safari tourism celebrates them through wildlife viewing, photography, and conservation.

Can tourists see all the Big Five in Uganda?

Yes. Uganda offers opportunities to see all five animals during a properly planned safari. Lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes inhabit major savannah national parks. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary provides the established rhino-tracking experience. However, sightings of free-ranging wildlife cannot be guaranteed.

Which national park is best for Big Five viewing in Uganda?

Murchison Falls National Park is an excellent starting point because it supports four traditional Big Five species. Queen Elizabeth and Kidepo Valley also provide rewarding wildlife experiences. Travelers can include Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to add rhinos to the itinerary.

How many days are needed for an African Big Five safari?

A short safari of three or four days can combine Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary with Murchison Falls National Park. However, additional days improve opportunities for wildlife viewing. A seven- to ten-day itinerary allows visitors to explore several destinations and enjoy more activities.

Are leopards difficult to see on safari?

Yes. Leopards are secretive animals and often rest inside vegetation or trees. Their camouflage makes them difficult to discover. Experienced guides can improve viewing opportunities, but nobody can guarantee a leopard sighting.

What is the best time to visit Uganda for the Big Five?

Uganda generally offers good game-viewing conditions during its relatively dry seasons. December to February and June to August are popular travel periods. Nevertheless, wildlife viewing remains possible throughout the year.

Can children participate in a Big Five safari?

Children can enjoy many vehicle-based wildlife safaris in Uganda. However, specific activities may have minimum age requirements. Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking have separate regulations, while walking activities require additional safety considerations. Lena Tours can help families select age-appropriate experiences.

Is a Big Five safari suitable for first-time visitors?

Yes. An organized safari provides an excellent introduction to African wildlife. Professional guides assist with transportation, wildlife identification, and safety requirements. First-time visitors can enjoy game drives without needing previous safari experience.

What makes Uganda different from other African safari destinations?

Uganda combines traditional Big Five wildlife with mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, lakes, waterfalls, and tropical forests. This variety allows travelers to experience several different ecosystems during one holiday.

Can I book a private Big Five safari?

Yes. Lena Tours can organize private safari arrangements for couples, families, individuals, and small groups. Private itineraries offer flexibility in accommodation, travel dates, activities, and time spent at wildlife destinations.

Our group was driven around by Derrick. He was an excellent driver, very careful, and took great care. He would ensure that we were all sitted and he closed the doors before setting off. He looks very young but a careful and confident driver. He is very respectful and would recommend him and will use him again. He is very professional 👏 👌

Me and my friends went to Murchison Falls with Dominic for 3 days and had the most amazing time! Dominic was such a wonderful guide, always telling us about all the animals and answered all the 1000 questions I asked him! He was always attentive and curious, and looked like he was having the best time with us as well :) could not recommend him enough as guide! Will definitely be back to Uganda soon and book a safari with Dominic again!!!

We visited Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo, saw an incredible variety of animals, and stayed in some truly amazing accommodations! Our guide Dominic showed us the famous highlights and also took us to hidden gems and breathtaking viewpoints that made us fall even more in love with Uganda. And Dominic is not only a fantastic guide, he is also an excellent photographer! :) One of my personal highlights was the walking safari in Lake Mburo. Being able to experience the wildlife on foot was something really special and completely different from a game drive. We hope to have the chance to travel with Lena Tours again in the future. There is still so much more to discover, and we would love to come back for another adventure!
